Your “Casablanca” Timesheet, Mr. Bogart

You probably haven’t heard of the Texas Musicians Museum, but you likely heard of the movie “Casablanca”  with Humphrey Bogart.  The video accompanying this article shows information from one day of production.  What caught my eye were the check in and check out times for famous people.art and Ingrid Bergman.

What’s the connection to the Texas Musicians Museum?  The musician playing “Sam,” the piano player, is from Texas.  He’s Arthur “Dooley” Wilson.  “Play it again, Sam” is a famous line people remember from the movie.  But the line is actually slightly different as you’ll hear in the clip below.

The video accompanying this article shows information from one day of production with a pan to Dooley Wilson’s information.

What caught my eye were the check in and check out times for famous people.  A production sheet from the movie is on display at the museum.

About the Movie

The classic and much-loved romantic melodrama Casablanca (1942), is always found on top-ten lists of films.  It’s a masterful tale of two men vying for the same woman’s love in a love triangle. The story of political and romantic espionage is set against the backdrop of the wartime conflict between democracy and totalitarianism. The film premiered in 1942.

With rich and smoky atmosphere, anti-Nazi propaganda, Max Steiner’s superb musical score, suspense, unforgettable characters (supposedly 34 nationalities are included in its cast) and memorable lines of dialogue (e.g., “Here’s lookin’ at you, kid,” and the inaccurately-quoted “Play it again, Sam”), it is one of the most popular, magical films of all time.  It focused on the themes of lost love, honor and duty, self-sacrifice and romance within a chaotic world.
