The Best Way to Start Your Presentation

We all get so caught up in what we’re going to say that we forget the importance of the first few seconds.

Think of when you meet someone.  They often smile.  You get a warm feeling.  You feel welcome.  You need to make this intentional.  Otherwise, it won’t happen.  Besides, you need to be natural.

So how do you make that happen in the press of all your business?

A client has a photo of one of his favorite clients taped next to his camera lens.  He thinks of that person and smiles naturally.  Certainly, it’s easier that way compared to starting at a cold camera, right?

The Best Way to Start Your Presentation:  Takeaway

  • Look at the first five seconds of your most recent videos.
  • Assess whether you welcomed viewers in a warm, engaging way.
  • If not, decide how you can make that all important connection fast.
  • When you watch other presenters, observe how they connect fast.

Remember the importance of your voice

For making a warm connection, your voice is one of the most important tools you have.  It is a musical instrument and all so often we don’t stop and learn how to play it.
It’s part of you and expresses your emotion, your personality, your feelings. When you are in full control of your voice your can use it to pull viewers in,  move your audience and change their thoughts and feelings.  That’s just as all successful actors, politicians, and public speakers do.
