Quick tips to punch through with your voice.

This will set you apart from the average speaker.  Let’s start.

Plan to emphasize key words and phrases.  Yes, that sounds obvious, but many of the people I mentor find that challenging.  Some are happy to get through the information when they speak.  But all the words come across the same.  You need to determine the key words and phrases, and hit them hard.

Quick tips to punch through with your voice are just a start to a great presentation, but you should master them.

Say this sentence:  “I’m the best one for the job.”

What word or words did you emphasize?  Think “Who’s the best one for the job?”  Of course, “I’M the best one for the job.”  Emphasize “I’m” and secondarily “best one.”

If you believe you’re the best one for the job, it should come naturally.

Along with this article, you should watch a 90 second video I created which makes this point with examples from a TV anchor.  She hit the key words hard.  But, be careful, not all TV anchors or speaks are as adept.

Tips for Improving Your Presentations:  Takeaways

  • Underline key words or phrases when you speak.
  • Better yet, memorize them so you don’t have to look down when speaking.
  • Practice every day — even when just talking with friends.
  • You can be conversational while hitting those key words hard.
  • You do this already when you’re passionate about a subject, so you’re off to a good start.
